Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If rapid recovery does not occur, obtain medical attention.

Skin contac: Wash skin with water using soap if available. If persistent irritation occurs, obtain medical attention.

Eye contact: Flush eye with water. If persistent irritation occurs, obtain medical attention.

Ingestion : Do not induce vomiting. If rapid recovery does not occur, obtain medical attention.

Notes to physician

Symptoms : Eye contact may cause slight irritation Skin contact may cause slight irritation

Treatment : Treat symptomatically. If skin sensitisation has developed and a causal relationship has been confirmed, further exposure

should not be allowed.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing : Foam, water spray or fog. Dry chemical powder, carbon media dioxide, sand or earth may be used for small fires only.

Specific hazards during fire : Keep adjacent containers cool by spraying with water.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Further information:  Not classified as flammable but will burn. Carbon monoxide may be evolved if incomplete combustion occurs.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing, substance is a skin sensitizer.

Environmental precautions:  Prevent contamination of soil and water.  Prevent from spreading or entering into drains, ditches or rivers by using sand, earth, or other appropriate barriers.

Clean-up methods - small,  Absorb or contain liquid with sand, earth or spill control spillage material.  Shovel up and place in a labelled, sealable container for subsequent safe disposal.  Scrub contaminated surfaces with detergent solution Retain washings as contaminated waste.  Put leaking containers in a labelled drum or overdrum.

Clean-up methods - large Transfer to a labelled, sealable container for product recovery spillage or safe disposal.

Otherwise treat as for small spillage.

Handling and storage

Advice on safe handling : Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.  Avoid breathing vapour, spray or mists.  Substance is a skin sensitizer.

Requirements for storage areas and containers: Keep container tightly closed and dry.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering measures:  Use local exhaust ventilation.  Eye protection: Monogoggles  Hand protection recmmended: Nitrile rubber gloves, Butyl rubber gloves, gauntlet type, substance is a skin sensitizer.  Skin and body protection: Standard issue work clothes.  Safety shoes or boots - chemical resistant.  Respiratory protection: If engineering controls do not maintain airborne concentrations to a level which is adequate to protect worker health, select Respiratory Protective Equipment suitable for the specific conditions of use and meeting relevant legislation. Check with Respiratory Protective Equipment suppliers.

Stability and reactivity

Caustic soda can induce vigorous polymerisation at temperatures around 200 °C.  Avoid strong oxidizing agents and caustic soda.  Hazardous decomposition products are not expected to form during normal storage.  Substance is stable under normal use conditions.  But will react with strong oxidising agents.

Disposal considerations

If this material becomes a waste, place in an appropriate disposal facility in compliance with local and federal regulations.
