Conclusion on classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance requires classification with respect to the environment as Chronic Category 2 (H411: Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects).

This is based on the 96 h LC50 of 3.9 mg/L in Danio rerio and the 48 h EC50 of 6.5 mg/L in Daphnia magna, coupled with the fact that the substance is not considered to be rapidly degradable.

There does not appear to be sufficiently robust information available to warrant the use of the reported EC50 value in algae of 0.9 mg/L for classification purposes concerning environmental toxicity hazard; this is an estimated effective concentration and as a conclusion from the hazard assessment, the toxicity of diphenyl carbonate towards algae is considered be with an EC50 >1 mg/L.
