Executive summary:

Diphenyl carbonate contains no chemical groups, in particular acidic hydrogen, that cause corrosivity to metals. Thus it can be excluded that the substance is corrosive to metals in the sense of the test guideline UN C.1 which is cited in GHS chapter 2.16. UN Test method C.1 as described in the ‘Manual of Tests and Criteria’ (fifth revised edition, part III, sub-section 37.4) is applicable only to liquids and solids that may become liquid during transport. Therefore, the test criteria of metal corrosion do not apply.

The substance has a low melting point (78.8 °C) and is therefore considered as a substance without self-heating properties according to the REACH Guidance document on the Application of the CLP Criteria section 2.11.4.2.

The substance shows no chemical groups associated with self-reactive properties according to the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods - Manual of Tests and Criteria, Appendix 6, Table A6.2 (Self-reactive substances), which is cited in GHS chapter 2.8. The substance is therefore not self-reactive.

The endpoint is addressed with one key study (Keldenich, 2010). The study has been performed to standardised guidelines and in accordance to GLP requirements. Therefore the study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria for assessing data quality as set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to corrosivity to metals, self-heating or self-reactive properties.
