Description of key information

Betaines, C12-14 (even numbered)-alkyldimethyl is readily biodegradable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to the Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex IX, section 9.2, column 2, studies on the biodegradation in water and sediment do not need to be conducted if the test item is readily biodegradable. However, additional data obtained from a wastewater simulation test conducted in accordance with OECD guideline 303A is available. In this test domestic sewage was exposed to Betaines, C12-14 (even numbered)-alkyldimethyl (EC No. 931-700-2) and after an adaptation period of 7 days, the degradation was 94.9 % (solid) after 16 days.
