Additional information

According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex IX, section 9.1.6, column 2, long-term toxicity testing shall be proposed if the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects on aquatic organisms. A long-term test for aquatic invertebrates for Betaines, C12-14 (even numbered)-alkyldimethyl, EC No. 931-700-2 is available.

Based on short-term results the fish is not expected to be more sensitive than aquatic invertebrates. The endpoints for the three relevant aquatic trophic levels are in the same order of magnitude. As the bioaccumulation potential is low and there was no sign, that fishes are more sensitive than invertebrates, no long-term test with fish was proposed due to animal welfare as considered in Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex IX, section 9.1.6, column 2

. In order to evaluate the long-term toxicity for aquatic organisms for alkyl dimethyl betaines a long-term test for aquatic invertebrates is available. Due to animal welfare no further fish test is provided.
