Justification for classification or non-classification

As the LD50 value in rats was between 200 and 2000 mg/kg bw (588 mg/kg bw) under normal circumstances this substance would be classified as Harmful according to the DSD, Or Category 4 according to GHS). However because nitrobenzene causes methaemoglobinemia the common approach is to apply stronger classification and labeling of R 23,24,25 (toxic by inhalation in contact with skin and if swallowed) which was officially confirmed in 1995 (implemented in the 22. ATP).
