Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2013
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The distribution and elimination of TMAOH in Sewage Treatment Plants as calculated by SimpleTreat 3.0 (incorporated in EUSES 2.1.2) is as follows:
Fraction to air: 0%
Fraction to water: 2%
Fraction to sewage sludge: 4.95%
Fraction degraded: 93.05%
Executive summary:

The distribution and elimination of TMAOH in Sewage Treatment Plants was calculated by SimpleTreat 3.0 (incorporated in EUSES 2.1.2).

The substance is readily biodegradable and in a simulation study with the structurally related substance TMAC (see read-across justification attached to IUCLID section 13) >98% removal from waste water was demonstrated (Ripley and Hossain, 1997). In this study only concentrations in influent and effluent were measured. In EUSES 2.1.2 a percentage to sludge was calculated based on an average Koc of 563 as determined by Brands (2013) and setting the substance as ready biodegradable. This percentage was subtracted from the overall removal of >98% to obtain a fraction that was degraded.

The calculated distribution and elimination of TMAOH in Sewage Treatment Plants is as follows:

Fraction to air: 0%

Fraction to water: 2%

Fraction to sewage sludge: 4.95%

Fraction degraded: 93.05%
