Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Available publications give clear indication of relevant photodegradation processes of benzotriazole in aqueous solutions under acidic and neutral pH conditions. Under basic conditions the ionic form of benzotriatole, strictly speaking benzotriazolate, is dominant showing a reduced reactivity to UV light. The same will occur for Tolyltriazole and its Sodium salt.

Hem et al. identified aniline, phenazine and supposable an oxidation product of phenazine as relevant transformation products. Based on these findings it can be assumed that photodegradation in water enhances the detoxification and biodegradability of Benzotriazole, Tolyltriazole as well as their conjugated sodium salts.
