Description of key information

Zirconium acetate was concluded not to melt before it decomposes, following Thermogravimetric and Differential Thermal Analysis as described in the EC A.1 test guideline (Darab, 2012). Decomposition becomes significant starting from ca. 243°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

It is not possible to determine the melting point of zirconium acetate as it degrades before melting, the final decomposition product being zirconium dioxide. Decomposition starts around 243°C with dehydration and dehydroxylation; acetate decomposition is anticipated to start at approximately 327°C with final decomposition to zirconium dioxide at approximately 531°C.
