Description of key information

The chemical safety assessment according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 does not indicate the need to investigate further the toxicity to terrestrial arthropods.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No experimental data evaluating the toxicity of Fatty acids, C12-16 (even numbered) and C18 unsatd., methyl esters (CAS No. 1234694-02-0) to arthropods are available. The standard information requirements set in Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Column 2, 9.4, state that short-term toxicity tests on invertebrates should be available. Since earthworm toxicity data are available, showing no toxicity, testing on terrestrial arthropods is not deemed necessary.

Earthworm toxicity data from suitable read-across substances (methyl laurate (CAS No. 111-82-0) and methyl palmitate (CAS No. 112-39-0)) in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5) are available. In these tests performed according to OECD 222, no effects on survival, reproduction or growth of Eisenia fetida were reported, leading to NOEC values = 1000 mg/kg dw (Winkelmann (2013)).
