Description of key information

Phototransformation in water is no requirement under Reach.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

EDTA forms complexes with ions. Therefore EDTA exists naturally as a mixture of chelate complexes. Some EDTA species, especially the iron complex, are photolysable [EU Risk Assessment, 2004], for jsutification of read across please refer to IUCLID 5, chapter 13.

Metsärine et al. (2001) could show that in natural waters photodegradation of Na2 -EDTA is 74 % in 50 days.
