Additional information

Benzene has been determined to be readily biodegradable in guideline studies (Shell, 2000; Brixham Environmental Laboratory, 2001). Structural analysis of the benzene molecule indicates that it is not expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment due to the lack of hydrolyzable functional groups. Benzene is expected to have low potential for bioaccumulation and adsorption to soil and sediment based on a measured log Kow <3. Both these endpoints are therefore waived. However, measured BCF and measured Koc are reported and support this conclusion.
