Description of key information

As there is no available data which establishes the toxicity of 2-allyloxymethyl-2-ethylpropanediol to STP microbes a study is read across to the structural analogue trimethylolpropane diallyl ether (2,2-bis(allyloxymethyl)butan-1-ol).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
316 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of trimethylolpropane diallyl ether (structural analogue to 2-allyloxymethyl-2-ethylpropanediol) to activated sewage sludge was investigated in a respiration inhibition test according to OECD test guideline 209. Following three hours exposure to trimethylolpropane diallyl ether the EC50 was observed to be >1000 mg/L (based on nominal exposure concentrations). A 37% effect on respiration was observed at 1000 mg/L with no effect at 316 mg/L, therefore the NOEC was observed to 316 mg/L (Knight, TMPDE, 2010).
