Basing on a grouping approach, the 48-hour EC50 of glycolic acid for aquatic invertebrates is 141 mg/L (nominal), while the 72-hour EC50 of glycolic acid for aquatic plants is 44 mg/L (measured) for growth and 21.6 mg/L (measured) for biomass.

Although no data are available for ammonium glycolate, it has been considered that data from a similar substance which is an acid and which can therefore produce worse effects on aquatic organisms due to its low pH, are useful to predict the aquatic toxicity of ammonium glycolate.

Basing on the available data, no ecotoxicity is expected for ammonium glycolate.
