The test material has been determined to be not highly flammable.
The flammability of the test material was investigated in a study that
was performed under GLP conditions and in accordance to the standardised
guidelines EU Method A.10 and UN N.1. The study was assigned a
reliability score of 1 in line with the criteria of Klimisch et al.
The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of
the flammability of the test material. The test material was loosely
filled into an aluminium mould of 250 mm long with a triangular
cross-section of inner height of 10 mm and width of 20 mm. A
non-combustible and non-porous plate was placed on top of the mould. The
complete assembly was inverted and the mould removed.
A flame of a gas burner was applied to one end of the test material pile
until the test material ignited. The pile was visually interpreted for
propagation of combustion either by burning with a flame or smouldering.
The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test material pile. The test
material melted, burned with a blue yellow flame and turned into a brown
yellow residue. Grey smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition
source, the flame extinguished immediately and no propagation of
combustion was observed. Therefore no propagation of combustion of the
test material along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was
observed. Performance of the full burning rate test was not required.
Under the conditions of the study, the test material has been determined
to be not highly flammable.
Flammability (contact with water and pyrophoricity)
It is considered justified to omit the Flammability (Contact with Water)
and Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids tests as experience of
use determines that neither study need to be carried out as there is no
evidence of the substance either spontaneously igniting in air at room
temperature or exhibiting flammable properties in contact with water.
In accordance with the criteria for
classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the
substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
