Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There are two studies available to address this endpoint, one key and one supporting.

In the key study, the density of the test material was investigated in a study which was performed under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 109, EU Method A.3 and US EPA OPPTS 830.7300. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria of Klimisch et al. (1997).

The study was performed using a gas comparison stereopycnometer which had been calibrated prior to testing. The test material was dried in a desiccator under vacuum using silica-gel as the drying agent prior to the study. The sample cell was filled with test material, weighed and placed in the gas comparison pycnometer. The mean volume of the test material sample was determined; thereafter the sample cell was weighed again. The density of the test material was calculated, using sample weight before measurement and mean volume. The test was performed in duplicate.

The mean density and relative density of the test material were calculated. Measurements were performed at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C.

Under the conditions of the study, the density of the test material was determined to be 0.977 g/cm³ at 20 °C and the relative density was determined to be 0.977.

In the supporting study, the specific gravity of the test material was quoted in a paper which discusses the physical properties of alkylated phenols. The study was awarded a reliability score of 4 in accordance with the criteria of Klimisch et al. (1997).

Under the conditions of this study the test material was determined to have a specific gravity of 0.864.
