Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Justification for type of information:
Please refer to the attached justification below and the overall justification for grouping of substances attached in IUCLID Section 13.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source
Duration:
72 h
Dose descriptor:
EC50
Effect conc.:
> 913 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Remarks:
but exposure is to hydrolysis products
Basis for effect:
growth rate
Duration:
72 h
Dose descriptor:
NOEC
Effect conc.:
>= 913 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Remarks:
but exposure is to hydrolysis products
Basis for effect:
growth rate
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
A 72-h EC50 value of >913 mg/L and NOEC of ≥913 mg/L have been determined for the effects of the test substance on growth rate of Scenedesmus subspicatus based on nominal concentrations of the substance. However it is likely that the test organisms were exposed to the hydrolysis products of the substance.

Description of key information

ErC50 (72 h) of > 913 mg/L and a NOErC (72 h) of ≥ 913 mg/L (nominal, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, OECD 201); based on read-across from CAS 1067-25-0

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are no data available on toxicity to algae for hexyl(trimethoxy)silane (CAS 3069-19-0). In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 “Grouping of substances and read-across” and in accordance with the read across assessment framework (RAAF, ECHA 2017) a read-across from the structurally similar substance trimethoxy(propyl)silane (CAS 1067-25-0) has been applied to support the environmental hazard assessment of hexyl(trimethoxy)silane. Details on the read across justification can be found in the attached justification in the respective target entry and in the overall justification for grouping of substances attached in IUCLID Section 13.

The study with the analogue substance trimethoxy(propyl)silane (CAS 1067-25-0) was performed according to OECD 201 (GLP). Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was exposed to the substance up to a concentration of 913 mg/L under static conditions. Inhibition of growth was not recorded resulting in an ErC50 (72 h) of > 913 mg/L and a NOErC (72 h) of ≥ 913 mg/L.
