2 -Vinylpyridine has been investigated in acute and chronic aquatic toxicity studies in fish, invertebrates and in algae. All acute EC50 values are over 5 mg/L. The most sensitive acute value is in fish, where the EC50 is 6.5 mg/L. The chronic LC50, and EC50 values for reproduction, in Daphnia magna, are approximately 1 mg/L, at 21 days. 2VP displays low toxicity toward microorganisms in activated sewage sludge (EC50 of 260 mg/L, and NOEC of 32 mg/L). These values indicate that 2VP can be considered moderately toxic to aquatic organisms.
