Additional information

No data on biodegradation of potassium 2-methylbutan-2-olate is available. Potassium-2-methylbutan-2-olate hydrolyses immediately in contact with water into potassium hydroxide (CAS No. 1310-58-3) and -methylbutan-2-ol (CAS No. 75-85-4). For both substances REACh dossiers are available on the dissemination homepage of ECHA. Potassium hydroxide is an inorganic substance that further dissociates in water. Therefore, the organic hydrolysis product 2-methylbutan-2-ol is the relevant substance regarding biodegradation. According to the disseminated dossier, 2-methylbutan-2-ol was determined to be moderately biodegradable and to be well eliminated.

As the substance is used as a transported intermediate and hydrolyses rapidly, no further studies were conducted. The classification of the substance is based on the hydrolysis products, which are not classified for environmental hazards according to the disseminated dossiers and CLP regulation 1272/2008 Annex VI.
