Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

In a dermal sensitization study (Degussa 1984; and cited in SIAR 2006) with Cyanoacetic acid (purity 99.3%), guinea pigs were tested using the method of Buehler. the method followed was that described in the EPA Health Effects Testing Guidelines, Subpart E- Specific Organ/Tissue Toxicity . In this study, Cyanoacetic acid did not produce evidence of skin sensitisation (delay contact hypertensitivity) in any test animals.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
Cyanoacetic acid is not a dermal sensitizer in guinea pigs (Buehler test).

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the data available, there is no need to classify Cyanoacetic acid for skin sensitisation according to the Directive 67/548/EC or GHS criteria.
