Description of key information

The substance did not propagate combustion, it was not flammable on contact with air or water. Therefore it is not considered to be flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Flammability:

In an assessment of flammability, no propagation of combustion of the test substance along a 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test was not required. Based on the results obtained the test substance is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

The test substance does not contain groups that might lead to ignition in contact with water and/or to the evolution of a flammable gas. Moreover the test substance was dissolved in water during the determination of the water solubility. It demonstrated that the test substance does not ignite spontaneously in contact with water. Unknown impurities at < 5% were not taken into account.

In conclusion, the test substance is considered ‘not highly flammable’ in contact with water.

The test substance does not contain groups that might lead to ignition in contact with air. The test substance contains two sodium sulfonategroups which are known not to be pyrophoric. Based on this the test substance is considered to pose no risk of ignition in contact with air. Moreover the test substance was handled under normal laboratory conditions during the testing. It demonstrated that the test substance does not ignite in contact with air at room temperature.

In conclusion this substance has no pyrophoric properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

No classification for Flammability is required.
