Additional information

No data on aquatic toxicity are available on the substance itself, nevertheless some tests on a very similar substance are available (see read across justification for further details).

The data reported are:

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates: EC50, 48h = 0.031 mg/l

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria: EC50, 72h (growth rate) = 0.68 mg/l

According to the table 4.1.0 of the CLP Regulation (EC n. 1272/2008), a substance shall be classified as Aquatic Category Acute 1 (H400) when:

48 hr EC 50 (for crustacea) ≤ 1 mg/l and/or

72 or 96 hr ErC 50 (for algae or other aquatic plants) ≤ 1 mg/l.

Moreover, a substance shall be classified as Aquatic Category Chronic 1 (H410) when:

48 hr EC 50 (for crustacea) ≤ 1 mg/l and/or

72 or 96 hr ErC 50 (for algae or other aquatic plants) ≤ 1 mg/l

and the substance is not rapidly biodegradable

Based on the above results and the read across consideration Basic Violet 1 Acetate is classified H400: Very toxic to aquatic life and H410: Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
