Examining the structural formula, the following observations can be made:
- The molecule does not contain any functional groups such as organic
nitro compounds, N-Halogen Compounds (N-X), Oxohalogen compounds,
- The proportion of highly electronegative atoms in the molecule is low
(1 oxygen atom out of an overall atom count of 48). The oxygen atom is
bound to a carbon atom.
- The highly electronegative atom is not bound to another highly
electronegative atom, nor to any other electronegative elements.
Assessment against these criteria indicates strongly that the molecule
will not have oxidising properties.
On the basis of this exercise, the material should be considered as not
oxidising and should not be subjected to experimental testing. The
material meets all criteria for exemption from testing and has a
structure not at all conducive with that required to exhibit oxidising
The test substance was concluded from a GLP-compliant study not to have oxidising properties following a theoretical assessment of the chemical structure (Younis S, 2012).
The test substance needs not to be classified as an oxidising substance
as based on the chemical structure the substance does not contain any
chemical groups indicating oxidising properties.
