Any other information on results incl. tables

Self ignition of the neat test substance was not evident when a Grewer’s oven was gradually heated to 440°C. At 210 to 240°C, melting of the test substance commenced and therefore at this temperature the test substance leached out of the wire cube.

Test substance mixed with diatomaceous earth (1:1) melted also at 210°C. This was followed by weak self ignition of the melted material commencing at 220°C. As from approximately 300°C distinct self ignition was detected inducing temperatures > 600°C.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
There was no self ignition of the particulate or melted neat test substance in a Grewer’s oven gradually heated to 440°C, but with the mixture of test substance with diatomaceous earth (1:1) self ignition, weak in degree, started at 220°C and was followed by distinct self ignition from approximately 300°C. These findings were not considered to lead to a labelling requirement according to DIRECTIVE 2001/59/EC.
Executive summary:

3-Hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid as neat material and mixed with diatomaceous earth (1:1) was tested for auto flammability in a Grewer’s oven according to VDI 2263, Leaflet 1. Reliability grade 2 was assigned to the study.

Self ignition of the neat test substance was not evident when the oven was gradually heated to 440°C.

These findings were not considered to lead to a labelling requirement according to DIRECTIVE 2001/59/EC.
