Description of key information

The water solubility of zirconium acetate was determined in a GLP study following the test design as specified in test method EC A.6 and OECD Guideline 105 (Fox, 2013). The water solubility was estimated to be > 65% (w/w) (equals > 0.931 kg/L) at 20°C and a pH range of 3.4 to 3.5.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
931 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The substance is concluded to be very soluble in water at a low pH. In buffer solutions at pH 4, 7 and 9, pH buffering capacity was overruled; resulting pH-values were 3.7 (pH4), 3.9 (pH7) and 4.6 (pH9) and initial pH did not influence water solubility significantly, although at initial pH 9 the solution became an immobile gel. When adjusting the pH to values > 5, ICP-MS analyses showed no traceable amount of zirconium in solution (< 0.1 mg/L).
