First-aid measures

•Description of first aid measures
-General advice: First-aid crew: Ensure self-protection. Keep warm and in a quiet place. Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Move out of dangerous area.
-If inhaled: Provide fresh air. Keep the victim calm and in a semi-upright position. If symptoms persist, call a physician.
-In case of skin contact: Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If symptoms persist, call a physician.
-In case of eye contact : Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately.
-If swallowed : Rinse mouth with water. Immediately give large quantities of water to drink. Do NOT induce vomiting. Consult a physician.
•Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
-Symptoms: No information available.
•Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
-Treatment: Treat symptomatically. For specialist advice physicians should contact the Poisons Information Service.

Fire-fighting measures

•Extinguishing media
-Suitable extinguishing media: Dry extinguishing media based on NaCl (e.g.Totalit M) or pul-verized limestone.
-Unsuitable extinguishing media: Water, Halons, Carbon dioxide (CO2)
•Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
-Specific hazards during fire-fighting: Flammable. May form toxic gases on heating or in case of fire. Contact with water liberates extremely flammable gases. Hydrogen.
•Advice for firefighters
-Special protective equipment for firefighters: In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
-Further information: Use water spray to cool unopened containers. Be aware of a dangerous reaction with water, if the container is ruptured. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Accidental release measures

•Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
-Personal precautions: Ensure adequate ventilation. Wear personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe dust. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak.
•Environmental precautions
-Environmental precautions: Avoid subsoil penetration. Do not flush into surface water. Inform the relevant authorities if it enters sewers, aquatic environment or soil.
•Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up
-Methods for cleaning up: Ensure adequate ventilation. Pick up when dry. Avoid dust formation. Pick up and transfer to properly labelled containers. Clean contaminated surface thoroughly. Adequate disposal.

Handling and storage

•Precautions for safe handling
-Advice on safe handling: Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms. Wear personal protective equipment. Handle and open container with care. Handle under inert gas.
-Advice on protection against fire and explosion: Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Take precautions against dust explosion. No sparking tools should be used. Reacts violently with water, liberating highly flammable gases. Normal measures for preventive fire protection.
•Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
-Requirements for storage areas and containers: Store in original container. Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Store in a cool dry place. Keep under inert gas.
•Advice on common storage: Never allow product to get in contact with water during stor-age. Do not store near acids.
•Specific end use(s)
-Specific use(s): Reducing agents, Alloy component, Pyrotechnics.

Exposure controls / personal protection

•Control parameters
Contains no substances with occupational exposure limit values.
•Exposure controls
Engineering measures
Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms.
Take precautionary measures against static discharges.
Personal protective equipment
-Respiratory protection: In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Half mask with a particle filter P2 (EN 143).
-Hand protection: Flame retardant gloves. Protective gloves complying with EN 374. The exact break through time can be obtained from the protective glove producer and this has to be observed. Protective gloves have to be replaced at the first sign of deterioration.
-Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles. Eye protection (EN 166).
-Skin and body protection : Flame retardant protective clothing according to DIN EN 531.
-Hygiene measures: Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe dust. Avoid dust formation. Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday.
-Protective measures : Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and safety shower. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.
Environmental exposure controls
-General advice : Avoid subsoil penetration. Do not flush into surface water. Inform the relevant authorities if it enters sewers, aquatic environment or soil.

Stability and reactivity

•Reactivity
Dangerous reaction with water, acids and oxidising substances to form flammable gases.
•Chemical stability
Stable under recommended storage conditions.
•Possibility of hazardous reactions
-Hazardous reactions: Risk of auto-ignition. Gives off heat. Dangerous reaction with water, acids and oxidising substances to form flammable gases. Contact with water liberates highly flammable gases.
•Conditions to avoid
-Conditions to avoid: Heat, flames and sparks. Protect from moisture. Keep away from sources of ignition. Dust can form an explosive mixture in air.
•Incompatible materials
-Materials to avoid: Water Halogenated compounds Oxidizing agents Strong acids. Reducing agents ammonia
•Hazardous decomposition products
-Risk of decomposition: Decomposes in contact with water. Hydrogen. Calcium
-Thermal decomposition: 600 °C

Disposal considerations

•Waste treatment methods
-Product : Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
-Contaminated packaging: Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
-Waste Code: Waste codes should be assigned by the user, preferably in discussion with the waste disposal authorities.
