Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Four different fish species (Bluegill Sunfish, Rainbow Trout, Fathead Minnow and Oryzias latipes) were exposed to 44PD in a static test (Oryzias latipes were exposed in a semi static test). All tests were carried out according to (then existing) guidelines and under GLP. The 96hr-LC50 values for the different species were close, the lowest 96hr LC50 value was obtained for Fathead Minnow and was 0.13 mg/L. The highest 96hr LC50 value was obtained for Rainbow trout and was 1.4 mg/L.

Additional information

Short term data are available for 4 different test species form independent studies. The results of the studies are shown below:

 Species

  96hr LC50 (95% conf int)

NOEC

 Bluegill Sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus)

0.18 (0.10 - 0.32)

0.10

 Rainbow Trout (Salmo gairdneri)

 0.13 (0.12 - 0.14)

 0.056

 Fathead minnow (Pimephalus promelas)

 0.13 (0.10 - 0.18)

 0.10

 Japanese killfish (Oryzias latipes)

 0.368 (0.108 - 0.543)

 0.108 (not a NOEC but LC0)

The results show little variation over the different species. Also in all studies the 24 and 48hr LC50 values were measured. The 48 hr LC50 values were very close or the same as the 96 hr LC50 values (see the study summaries). From these results it can be concluded that the results are not biassed by slow uptake of the compound by the fish.

The lowest 96 hr LC50 value is for Fathead Minnow, so this is taken as the 96hr LC50 value that is representative for fish.
