Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Parent compound: From the water surface, the substance will rapidly evaporate into the atmosphere.
Hydrolysis product: From the water surface, the substance will slowly evaporate into the atmosphere.
However, the assessment of the volatility of the parent compound may be of low relevance due to the rapid hydrolysis of the chloroformate in aqueous solutions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Henry's law constant (H) (in Pa m³/mol):
17.2
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Parent compound tetradecyl chloroformate:

The bond estimation method gives a value of 9480 Pa*m³/mol (HENRYWIN Program, v3.20; EPI Suite v4.10; BASF SE, 2012), which is representative for the uncharged molecule. Based on the results of the EPI Suite calculation the substance will rapidly evaporate from the water surface into the atmosphere.

Dissolved tetradecyl chloroformate (CAS 56677 -60 -2) rapidly decomposes in water and forms HCl (CAS 7647 -01 -0), CO2 (CAS 124 -38 -9) and tetradecanol (CAS 112 -72 -1). Therefore, the model calculation may be of low relevance.

Hydrolysis product tetradecanol:

The bond estimation method gives a value of 17.2 Pa*m³/mol (HENRYWIN Program, v3.20; EPI Suite v4.10; BASF SE, 2012), which is representative for the uncharged molecule. Based on the results of the bond estimation, the substance will slowly evaporate from the water surface into the atmosphere.
