Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

As key study a short-term respiration inhibition test performed by BASF AG (1987) according to ISO 8192 was identified. The static test used domestic activated sludge as inoculum. After 30 minutes the EC20 was found to be >100 mg/l. This result is supported by a test on Pseudomonas putida according to DIN 38412 part 8 (BASF AG, 1987). In this study an EC10 of 164 mg/l was determined.
