Additional information

Short-term fish

Key study: MITI, 2000, 9B506G; OECD 203, Oryzias latipes: 96-h LC50 = 22.6 mg/L (nominal, analytically verified).

Based on this result, phthalonitrile is considered to be acutely harmful to fish.

Long-term fish

No data. Not required for this tonnage band.

Short-term aquatic invertebrates

KEY study: MITI, 1999, 9B462G; OECD 202, Daphnia magna: 48-h EC50 = 211 mg/L (nominal, analytically verified).

Based on the available results the substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms.

Long-term aquatic invertebrates

Key study: MITI, 2000, 9B484G; OECD 211, Daphnia magna: 21-d NOEC = 14 mg/L, 21-d EC50 = 48.5 mg/L (nominal, analytically verified).

Based on CLP, chronic toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is not anticipated.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

Key study: MITI, 2000, 9B440G; OECD 201, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, (previous name Selenastrum capricornutum). Re-calculation with ToxRat Pro v3.3.0:72-h EC10= 78.3 mg/L, 72-h EC50 = 141.1 mg/L.

Based on the available data phthalonitrile is not considered to be acutely harmful to aquatic algae. Additionally, following CLP chronic toxicity is not anticipated.

Toxicity to microorganisms

Key study: BASF AG (1987), ISO 8192, inoculum: domestic activated sludge. 30-m EC20 >100 mg/l.

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
