If released into water, the UVCB substance can be expected to be poorly biodegradable.
In a ready
biodegradability test with the UVCB substance (CAS 68411 -46 -1)
following OECD guideline 301B, no significant biodegradation was
observed. 1% degradation after 28 days was reported in this GLP study
(Ciba-Geigy 1988). Initial test substance concentrations
were 10.6 and 20.1 mg/L. The study was therefore performed at
concentrations exceeding the water solubility. Thus, most of the test
material used in the test was not accessible for biodegrading processes.
Biodegradation of about 1% after 28 days was reported.
Overall, although biodegradation is expected to occur in the
water-soluble fraction, the biodegradation rate is expected to be too
small to go below the persistency criteria.
the UVCB substance is assumed to be poorly biodegradable.
