The substance dimethylolpropionic acid is readily biodegradable according to a study to OECD guideline 301A.

In accordance with REACH Annex VIII column 2, the hydrolysis study does not need to be conducted as the substance dimethylolpropionic acid is readily biodegradable.

The logKow of dimethylolpropionic acid is reported to be -1.1 (see Section 4.7, partition coefficient). According to Column 2 of Annex IX of the REACH regulation, no study is required if the logKow is below the trigger of 3 as the substance can be expected to have a low potential for bioaccumulation.

Based on physicochemical properties (i.e. Log Pow = -1.1) the substance can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption. According to Column 2 of Annex VIII of the REACH regulation, no study is required if the logPow is below the trigger of 3 as the substance can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption.

In accordance with REACH Annex IX column 2, the degradation simulation testing in water and/or sediment and in soil do not need to be conducted as the substance is readily biodegradable.
