1,1,1,2 -tetrafluoroethane (HFC 134a) is a gas (boiling point -26°C) of low solubility and therefore direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely. It also has a low potential for adsorbtion on soils (log Kow = 1.06). Therefore it is anticipated that any releases of HFC 134a will have negligible impact on the terrestrial environment.
The mammalian dataset for HFC 134a is extensive and shows it to be of low acute and chronic toxicity. Therefore it is not anticipated that HFC 134a will present a toxic hazard to birds.
