Endpoint:
viscosity
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
7th January 2019 - 15th January 2019
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to
Guideline:
OECD Test Guideline 114 (Viscosity of Liquids)
Version / remarks:
Rotational viscometry
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test item was tested in the container it was supplied in, due to its high viscosity. This was in deviation to the protocol which stated that the test item would be poured into a measuring cup. Since the instrument manufacturer states that testing of fluids >30,000 mPa.s can be tested in their container, and that the viscosity calibration standard check was successful in a container of similar, but smaller dimensions to that of the test item – this deviation is not considered to impact the integrity of the result obtained.
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
rotational viscometer (dynamic)
Standard covering the apparatus used:
The viscosity was measured using a Brookfield Digital Viscometer, Model LVDV-I+ with spindle LV4.

Additional information

The viscosity of the test material was investigated in a study which was performed under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guideline OECD 114.The study was assigned a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria for assessing data quality set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

The dynamic viscosity was measured using a Brookfield Digital Viscometer. The test item was tested at 20°C and 40°C. The kinematic viscosity is calculated from the mean dynamic viscosity measured at each temperature:

Kinematic viscosity at 20 degrees Celsius: 1,291,818 mm2/s

Kinematic viscosity at 40 degrees Celsius: 44,037 mm2/s
