Description of key information
A manometric respirometry test according to OECD 301 F (July 1992) was conducted in order to investigate the ready biodegradability of propyl gallate (Flach 2017). In conclusion, the test item propyl gallate did not reach the criteria for ready biodegradability.
According to REACH Annex IX, endpoint 9.2, column 2, further biotic degradation testing shall be proposed by the registrant if the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates the need to investigate further the degradation of the substance and its degradation products. The outcome of the environmental risk assessment based on the available data indicates safe use. Therefore, a corresponding study is not required.
