Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks:
The test item Propyl gallate could not be ignited during preliminary screening test.
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Preliminary Test

About 19 g of the test item were used to form the test pile. The test was started by trying to ignite the pile at one end with a gas burner. After 2 minutes the flame was removed from the test item. The part of the test item which had direct contact with the ignition source melted. During the ignition no independent burning or glowing over the length of the pile was observed.

Main Test

The main test was not performed because no burning or glowing over the length of the pile was observed in the preliminary test.

Interpretation of results:
other: Propyl gallate does not have to be classified as ‘flammable solid.
Conclusions:
The flammability of Propyl gallate (Propyl-3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate) was determined according to EC method A.10. No independent burning or glowing over the length of the pile was observed in the preliminary test. Since no independent burning or glowing over the length of the pile was observed, the test item does not have to be classified as ‘flammable solid.
Executive summary:

The flammability of propyl gallate (propyl-3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate) was determined according to EC method A.10. No independent burning or glowing over the length of the pile was observed in the preliminary test. Since no independent burning or glowing over the length of the pile was observed, the test item does not have to be classified as ‘flammable solid.

Description of key information

The flammability of propyl gallate (propyl-3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate) was determined according to EC method A.10. No independent burning or glowing over the length of the pile was observed in the preliminary test. Since no independent burning or glowing over the length of the pile was observed, the test item does not have to be classified as ‘flammable solid'.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Since no independent burning or glowing over the length of the pile was observed during the preliminary screening test, the test item does not have to be classified as ‘flammable solid'.
