Additional information

Adler et al. (2001) reported that the median inflow concentration of E2was 1-2 ng/L in treatment plants in Germany, while after treatment the median was 0.2 - 0.7 ng/l. The median concentrations of E2in effluents from Dutch waste water treatment plants as measured by Belfroid et al. (1999) was 0.9 ng/L. The presence of E2in natural aquatic ecosystems was analysed in a number of studies. For example, Adler et al. (2001), Belfroid et al. (1999), Kolpin et al. (2002), and Ternes et al. (1999), reported median aquatic concentrations that were below the limit of detection (typically 0.1-1 ng/L), whereas concentrations occasionally exceeded the level of 1 ng/L.
