Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a volatility check that was done as preliminary work before an OECD 209 test, the test material completely evaporated from a watch glass in 4 minutes (Harlan, 2009). Based on this result, it can be assumed that the test material would evaporate completely from the test system in an OECD 209 test. Based on the high volatility, the study is technically not feasible, in accordance with REACH Annex XI, section 2.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

In a modified MITI test (I), propylene oxide was ready biodegradable at a concentration of 100 mg/L (MITI, 1988) and there was no measurable inhibition of microbial activity in the closed bottle test (GLP, OECD 301D) at 3 mg/L after 28 days exposure (Shell Research Ltd., 1985). Based on these results, it can be concluded that the NOEC to micro-organisms from a sewage treatment plant is 100 mg/L.
