Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No data are available for sediment toxicity.

2-phenoxyethanol has shown to be readily biodegradable, hence it can be assumed that the substance will be completely biologically degraded within the STP process. Furthermore, for substances not passing the STP-process but being readily biodegradable, it can be assumed that they will be also biologically degraded in the surface water within a short time. Thus, transport of the substance to the sediment compartment is unlikely and consequently, testing of sediment organisms is considered to be not necessary.

Furthermore, according to the TGD (EC 2003), substances with a Koc of <500 - 1000 L/kg are not likely to adsorb to sediment. To avoid extensive testing of chemicals, a log Koc of >=3 can be used as trigger value for sediment effects assessment. As 2-phenoxyethanol reveals a log Koc of 1.6 (Koc of 40.74 L/kg), sediment studies are not considered as being relevant.
