Key value for chemical safety assessment

Effect on immunotoxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
NOAEL
138 mg/kg bw/day

Additional information

Only one study was identified in the literature assessing the immunotoxic profile of carbon disulfide. Female mice were treated with CS2 by gavage at the following doses for 5 consecutive days: 138, 551, 1102 mg/kg bw. The findings do not suggest any immunotoxic effects of CS2. No significant treatment-related changes were observed in the thymus weight, in white blod cells differentials, in spleen weight, and in NK cell activity were detected. However, the immunological parameters tested in that study were limited.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The results of this study do not justify for the classification of CS2 based on immunotoxicity, as not effects were found convincingly demonstrating that CS2 exposure affected the immune system.
