Toxicity to terrestrial plants

For transported isolated intermediates according to REACh, Article 18, this endpoint is not a data requirement. However, data is available for this endpoint and is thus reported under the guidance of "all available data".

OECD SIDS (2003):

No guideline study with terrestrial organisms is available that was performed with 4-nitrotoluene. In humid sand, the 6d-EC50 of 4-nitrotoluene for terrestrial plants was about 200 mg/l for Phaseolus aureus and about 300 mg/l for Cucumis sativus (Eckert, 1962). The 14 d EC50 of Lactuca sativa was measured for various chloro(nitro)benzenes and other compounds including e.g. toluene, but not 4-nitrotoluene. An equation for the calculation of the EC was derived (Hulzebos et al., 1993), which was used to calculate the EC50 of 4-nitrotoluene to about 15 mg/l.
