Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Zirconium basic sulfate was concluded not to melt before it decomposes, following Thermogravimetric and Differential Thermal Analysis as described in the EC A.1 test guideline (Darab, 2012). Decomposition becomes significant starting from ca. 115°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

It is not possible to determine the melting point of zirconium basic sulfate as it degrades before melting, the final decomposition product being zirconium dioxide. Decomposition starts around 115°C with dehydration followed by dehydroxylation; de-sulphurisation is anticipated to start at approximately 600°C with final decomposition to zirconium dioxide at approximately 670°C.
