Zirconium zircon with encapsulated cadmium sulphide does not contain functional groups that are directly associated with explosive properties. It is therefore considered to be void of any explosive properties.
According to Regulation (EC) No
1907/2006, Annex VII, Section 7.11 Column 2 and ECHA Guidance on
information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7a:
Endpoint specific guidance, section R.7.1.11, December 2016, the
study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups
present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties
such as metal peroxides, peroxo-acid-anions, azides, and halogen oxides.
Considering that this pigment was produced by high temperatiure
calcination, this substance is assumed to be “inert” in the context of
explosivity as it contains cations in the highest oxidation state.
Furthermore, long-term industrial experience in practical handling of
the substance shows that it is not explosive.
Zirconium zircon with encapsulated cadmium sulphide does not need to be classified according to CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 since explosive properties are considered non-relevant based on the lack of functional group.
