Additional information

Chloro(dimethyl)octadecylsilane (CAS 18643-08-8) hydrolyses rapidly under environmental conditions (half-live < 2 min). Therefore the assessment is mainly based on the hydrolysis product. The hydrolysis products are octadecyldimethylsilanol and hydrochloric acid. The substance is not readily but inherently biodegradable (57% biodegradation after 28 d and 65% after 60 d). Octadecyldimethylsilanol bears a low volatility (8.4E-06 Pa at 25°C) and is barely water soluble (2.97E-05 mg/L at 20-25°C). However, it has a high adsorption potential (calculated log Koc between 5.7 and 6.1) and is therefore expected to sorb on soil and sediment particles as well as on sewage sludge.
