The ready biodegradation of 6-ethyl-2 -toluidine was investigated with a test item concentration of 20 mg/l related to DOC serving as the sole source of organic carbon and using activated sludge of domestic origin. After 28 days 6 % of the test item were degraded (Bayer AG, 1989). Based on these test results 6-ethyl-2-toluidine has to be classified as not readily biodegradable.

Under aerobic test conditions no biodegradation in soil was observed within 128 days applying 6-ethyl-2-toluidine as test item (Konopka 1991). Under anaerobic test coditions less than 30 % of 6-ethyl-2-toluidine were degraded in soil within 30 days (Konopka 1994).
