Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing agents: Use fire extinguishing methods suitable to surrounding conditions. Water haze. Fire-extinguishing powder. Dry sand.

For safety reasons unsuitable extinguishing agents: None known.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: In case of fire, the following can be released: Carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon monoxide (CO).

Advice for firefighters: Cool down the containers/equipment exposed to heat with a water spray. Do not attempt to fight the fire without suitable protective equipment: Acid-resistant clothing, Self-contained breathing apparatus. Isolate the scene by removing all persons from the vicinity of the incident if there is a fire.

Protective equipment: Mouth respiratory protective device.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep away from ignition sources. Knock down vapor cloud with water spray or other appropriate solution.

Environmental precautions: No special measures required.

Methods for cleaning up/taking up: Collect mechanically. Treat the assimilated material according to the section on waste disposal.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling: Use only in well ventilated areas. Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace. Use appropriate industrial vacuum cleaners or central vacuum systems for dust removal. Wear suitable respiratory protective device when decanting larger quantities without extractor facilities. Handle with care. Avoid jolting, friction and impact.

Information about fire - and explosion protection: Keep ignition sources away - Do not smoke. Protect against electrostatic charges. Dust can combine with air to form an explosive mixture. Use explosion-proof apparatus / fittings and spark-proof tools.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Requirements to be met by storerooms and receptacles: No special requirements.

Information about storage in one common storage facility: Not required.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters:

Exposure limit values: The EU has not developed exposure limits for any of this product's components.

Exposure controls:

General protective and hygienic measures: Immediately remove all soiled and contaminated clothing. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of work.

Respiratory protection: Not necessary if room is well-ventilated. Use suitable respiratory protective device when high concentrations are present.

Protection of hands: Protective gloves

Material of gloves: The selection of the suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks of quality

and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Penetration time of glove material: The exact break through time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be

observed.

Eye protection: Goggles recommended during refilling

Body protection: Protective work clothing

Risk management measures Ensure good ventilation of the work station.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: It is not a reactive substance and no reactive hazards are expected.

Chemical stability: Under normal conditions of use and storage (dry conditions), it is stable.

Thermal decomposition / conditions to be avoided: No decomposition if used and stored according to specifications.

Possibility of hazardous reactions No dangerous reactions known.

Conditions to avoid No further relevant information available.

Incompatible materials: Strong oxidising agents.

Hazardous decomposition products: Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide

Disposal considerations

Disposal of non-dangerous wastes: Dispose according to the national or local legislations. Wastes from charcoal are not classified dangerous or toxic. They may be disposed in approved sites for the landfill.

Disposal of contaminated packaging: Completely emptied packages can be re-cycled.
