Description of key information

Readily biodegradable: 100% (inorg. C) in 28 days (ISO 14593)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Comparing all available readily biodegradation studies, the members of the AES category are generally to be found readily biodegradable (HERA [1] & Danish EPA [2]).

Since no biodegradability tests are available for AES (C9 -11, 1-2.5EO) NH4 (CAS 160901-27-9), a read-across approach from the structural comparable AES (C9-11, 1-2.5EO) Na (CAS 160901-28-0) was applied.

This none-GLP study was performed with domestic sludge according to ISO Guideline 14593 (Huntsman, 2006). Based on inorganic C analysis a biodegradation rate of 100% was reported after 28 days.

Therefore, AES (C9 -11, 1 -2.5EO) NH4 (CAS 160901-27-9) is considered to be readily biodegradable.
