EC number: 500-464-9 | CAS number: 160901-27-9 1 - 2.5 moles ethoxylated
According to column 2 of EC 1907/2006 Annex VIII testing on adsoption/desorption” does not need to be conducted if the substance has a low potential for adsorption (e.g. the substance has a low octanol-water partition coefficient) or if the substance and its degradation products decompose rapidly. Based on a log Kow ≤ 3 the potential for adsorption of alkyl ether sulfates is low. Hence, testing of the adsorption and desorption attributes of the category members is not necessary.
However, to estimate PNEC sediment by the equilibrium partitioning method data of the sorption behavior of alkyl ether sulfates are needed. Since measured sorption values are not available, the Koc was calculated using the QSAR for “Predominantly hydrophobics” from Sabljic & Gusten (1995).
Based on an experimental determined log Kow-value of ≤ -0.89, the calculated log Koc for AES (C9 -11, 1-2.5EO) NH4 (CAS 160901-27-9) is -0.62 (corresponding to Koc = 0.23 L/kg).
