Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Because the test substance concentration could not be quantified in water samples using GC analysis, an alternative preliminary test was performed using visual observation.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Because the test substance concentration could not be quantified in water samples using GC analysis, an alternative preliminary test was performed using visual observation.
Preliminary test 1:
An amount of approximately 300 mg of the test substance was added to 200 ml double distilled water and stirred overnight at room temperature. Then a sample of 10 m1 was taken and analysed using the method of chemical analysis as described in the attached study report.
Preliminary test 2:
An alternative test was performed to determine the water solubility of the test substance. Different accurately weighed amounts of test substance were added to double distilled water, using volumetric flasks. The solutions with concentrations below 0.25 g/1 were prepared by dilution of the more concentrated solutions. The solutions were checked for solid particles by means of visual observation. The 2 solutions with the lowest concentrations were visually checked for solid particles using a microscope.
GLP compliance:
yes

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Interpretation of results (migrated information): slightly soluble (0.1-100 mg/L) Estimated range: 0.25 - 700 mg/l
Based on the complexity of DC 5067, the water solubility was estimated to be between 0.25 mg/l and 0.7 g/l .
Executive summary:

In conclusion, based on the complexity of DC 5067, the water solubility was estimated to be between 0.25 x 10-3 g/l and 0.7 g/l . During the first preliminary test it was found that the concentration of DC 5067 could not be quantified in water samples using a Gas Chromatographic (GC) method. Therefore, a second alternative preliminary test was performed using visual observation. From the results of the first preliminary test, the water solubility of DC 5067 was roughly estimated to be 0.7 g/l. From the results of the second preliminary test, the water solubility of DC 5067 was estimated to be (0.25 - 2.5) x 10-3 g/l.
