Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Version / remarks:
2015
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The test item was tested as received and not modified in any way. The flammability of the test item was determined by ignition of a powder train with a length of 250 mm and a triangular cross-section of 10 mm height and 20 mm width with the hot flame of a gas burner. The test item was not flammable within 2 minutes by the flame of a butane gas burner within the ignition zone (the first 50 mm of the formed test item). When the white test item was directly exposed to the hot burner flame, it melted quickly into a low-viscous liquid, which turned light brown to black. After removing the burner flame, slight smoke formation was observed temporarily. After cooling down, the test item appeared as a black to dark brown solid residue.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test item is a ‘Not readily combustible solid of Division 4.1’ according to test guideline UN Test N.1., Section 33.1, UN - MTC (2015)
The test item is also not classified as a 'flammable solid' according to GHS I CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, Annex 1: 2. 7, and not as a 'highly flammable solid' according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Method A.10 and Directive 67/548/EEC.
